Making Coffee At Home

Monday March 15, 2010

Making coffee might simply be a question of boiling the kettle, tipping a spoonful of instant coffee into a mug, adding milk and sugar and drinking it. But there are plenty of ways you can make your home made coffee taste and smell more interesting, and it is worthwhile experimenting with some of them.

For example you can get a coffee machine. This will mean you can start buying ground coffee to use in the machine. You can also buy whole beans to grind as and when you want your coffee to be as fresh as possible. You will notice the difference too. And since there are plenty of different types of coffee beans available you may need to make some room in your cupboard for all the different kinds of coffee you will start buying.

Be sure to buy some brown sugar as well. Demerara can be good for coffee if you don’t want to stick with white, and again it gives you another option. But there is even more you can do to make your coffee experience at home just as good as it is if you buy it at a coffee shop.

For example you can buy cream to go in your coffee instead of milk if you like. And how about a truly luxurious coffee topped off with whipped cream or squirty cream? Be sure you get real squirty cream though – you will be able to taste the difference. Try adding some flakes of chocolate to the top if you want something a bit different from your usual coffee.

Watch out for syrups as well. Not the usual golden syrup you might use in cooking – proper syrups you can add to coffee whenever you want a different flavour. These can commonly be seen in certain shops around Christmas time, but you can usually find them elsewhere during the year as well.

Typical examples are a gingerbread syrup and a vanilla flavoured syrup. These can add just an extra something to your coffee, and they are ideal for offering different drinks if you have guests for dinner as well. After dinner coffee has never tasted as good as it does at the moment, now you have all of these different options available to you.

So don’t just settle for instant coffee when you can have so much more. You will be amazed at just how flavoursome it can get.
