How Many Different Brands Of Coffee Do You Drink?

Wednesday October 7, 2009

There are two main types of coffee drinker in the world. The first type is very predictable indeed. They stick with their favourite brand the whole time. It doesn’t matter whether it’s first thing in the morning, lunchtime or last thing at night. You will know exactly which coffee they’ll be having.

The second type of coffee drinker is a lot more adventurous. They will have several different kinds of coffee in their cupboard at home, and they’ll have their favourite coffees to opt for whenever they are out and about as well. They won’t be able to pass a Starbucks without popping in and trying out their latest concoction.

But does it matter which group you are in?

Well it may do, because if you fall into the first group you could find yourself missing out on a lot of wonderful flavours. Coffee comes in lots of different strengths, but even if you only like very mild coffee you will still have a nice array of different drinks to try.

When you buy coffee to use at home, the strength will be on the label. It is indicated as a number, and the lower the number is the weaker the coffee will be. Some people prefer a stronger coffee in the mornings to help wake them up, with a much lower number last thing at night. Other people stick to the same strength all the time.

But it is worth experimenting as you can find lots of new tastes and experiences if you do so. Different coffees will be made from different coffee beans, and this alone can make a difference to what you taste. Even the amount you use will alter the final taste of the drink – not to mention the amount of sugar, milk or cream you eventually add to it. If you have the same thing all the time, why not get more adventurous?

A good way to start is to go out with a friend or your partner, and have a sip of their coffee if they are having something different. This means you won’t get stuck with a coffee you don’t like! And as you start to try different coffees you will broad your horizons and find different aromas and flavours enticing you to try them.

The great thing about liking several different types of coffee is that you can take advantage of the gift sets you often see. These have four or five different types presented nicely together, and there is no reason why you can’t buy one of these for yourself instead of as a gift for someone else.

So consider the potential benefits of trying different coffees. It has gone from being a simple drink to one with many variations – with added flavours, different types and styles and much more besides. Even if you only find a few that you like, the journey to discovering them will have been much more eye opening than simply sticking to your one and only choice all the time.

So – which one will you try first?
