A Review of Coffee Makers On The Kitchen Science Website

Kitchen Science

The Kitchen Science website is a treasure house of kitchen stuff and offers a wide range of coffee maker products. Prices range from good value filter coffee makers to very expensive bean-to-cup machines. The site has its own newsletter that you can sign up for plus special offers that could include coffee makers. And although there is a lot packed onto a page it’s relatively easy to follow.

Finding the website

You can visit the Kitchen Science Website home page at www.kitchenscience.co.uk.

Finding the section on coffee makers

When you have reached the Kitchen Science home page you’ll notice a band of tabs at the top of the page. Go to the ‘Kitchen Gadgets tab and click on it. Alternately, there is a menu on the left hand side of the page that lists types to shop for. You can click on the ‘Kitchen Gadgets’ link in the menu. Clicking on the tab will activate a drop-down menu. Select ‘Coffee Makers’ from the menu and click on it. This will take you to the opening page. You can then search by type, brand or price.

The selection available

There is a good selection of coffee makers on the Kitchen Science website, ranging from low priced filter items to very expensive bean to cup machines. There is a large selection of Nespresso machines. As you’d expect from a kitchen specialist, the choice is greater than that offered by the department stores. Brands sold include Bosch, DeLonghi, Francis Francis, Jura, Kenwood, Krups, Magimix, Philips and Siemens. The largest brand selection comes from DeLonghi and Krups.

Information provided on the site

The items on the main pages are listed one after the other under Brand, Product name, Availability and Price. At the top of the page you are told how many items are available and there are buttons for search options. You can press these to search by Coffee Maker, Brand and Price. There is an option to start the list with the highest price first or the lowest price. A menu on the left hand side allows you to search by brand and tells you how many items of each brand are available.

You can click on the ‘Go’ button, the rather small illustration, or the ‘Details’ link in order to reach the individual item page. Here you’ll find a larger image of the item under its name and Quickfind code. Click on the magnifying glass icon beside the image and you open a separate window showing an even larger image that you can zoom into for closer inspection. You can use your mouse to manoeuvre around the close-up image. This is useful as it allows you to view all parts of the machine in clear detail.

On the item page under the image is a list of bullet point features. Under that is a ‘Complete Product Details’ button. This brings up the machines ‘Specifications’ and ‘Customer Reviews’ tabs. Make sure you click on the ‘Specifications’ tab to show a list of features and benefits of those features. The latter is a useful addition for those who don’t know a great deal about coffee makers as it tells you what the feature is actually good for.

To the right of the image is a box offering free standard delivery and a link for more details. Click on this link and you open a window that outlines the delivery procedure. They use Parcelforce Monday to Friday and have a separate scheme called Premium delivery for which you pay a small fee.

Buying from the website

When you’ve chosen a coffee maker to suit your needs press the ‘Add to basket’ button at the top right of the item page. This will show in the box at the top right hand corner. Click on the go to checkout button in the box. This brings up the ‘Checkout’ page stage 1. Check the details of your purchase and if you’re a new customer click the ‘Start checkout’ button. This brings up ‘Stage 2’ where you fill in billing details. ‘Stage 3’ is delivery address while ‘Stage 4’ deals with billing type. Just follow the stages to complete your purchase.

Finally

The Kitchen Science website is fairly straightforward although a little on the busy side with information boxes to left and right. The range of items is good with emphasis on the more hassle-free bean to cup machines and Nespresso coffee makers. There are still lots to choose from, though, and purchasing is an easy to follow step by step programme.
