A Review of The Siemens coffee maker website

Siemens is a large organisation offering a wide range of products from electronic security to consumer products such as home appliances. It’s a high tech website that befits a high tech company. It’s fairly easy to navigate, though, with tabs and links that are clearly marked. Their products feature innovative technologies, they say, as well as modern design – to make your life easier. There is a limited selection of coffee makers, although, their ‘Porsche Design’ filter maker is an award winner and well worth a look at if you want straightforward filter coffee.

Finding the website

You can visit the Siemens website by going to www.siemens-home.co.uk .

Finding the section on coffee makers

When you reach the Siemens home page you’ll notice a band of tabs underneath the graphic. There are also three menus. On the far right one you’ll see ‘Siemens UK’. Click on this link to bring up the Siemens UK page. On the right hand side is a ‘quick links’ menu where you click on ‘Domestic appliances’. This will take you to the Home appliances page. Go to ‘Product showroom on this page and click on ‘more’. This will take you to the ‘Kitchen appliances online showroom’.

At the bottom of the second column is the ‘Coffee machines’ menu. Click on ‘Fully automatic coffee centres’. There is a nespresso link but at present there are no products available. The coffee centres page features a selection of bean to cup machines.

Selection available

All of the Siemens machines are bean to cup items except one, the Porsche Design filter coffee maker.

Information provided on the site

Items are listed one after the other in panels. On the left is an image of the machine. On the right the name and model number is given. Under this a bullet point list of features. Under this is a ‘More info’ link

Click on the ‘more info’ link to bring up the item page. There are three tabs at the top of the page. ‘Overview’ shows the product and lists its features with a useful explanation of each. ‘Technical specs’ is a duplication of the previous tab, so not that useful. ‘Additional documents’ allows you to download the machine’s user manual.

On the left of the page is a larger image with an option to enlarge even more if you click on the magnifying glass icon. This brings up a clearer image of the product in a separate window.

‘Product features’ in the ‘Overview’ page is more than just a list of technical specs. For each feature there is a brief explanation of the benefits of the feature. The ‘My Coffee Function’ system, for instance, allows you to programme and save your favourite brew. You can customise coffee strength, cup size and percentage of espresso to milk. The Senso Flow system boasts the fastest first cup on the market and low energy consumption.

To the right of the page is a quick links menu that lists ‘Brochures’, ‘Highlights’, ‘Campaigns’ and ‘Energy Rater’. Below that, there is a ‘Compare product’ link. Just click on the ‘Add to the compare list’ buttons of the machines you want to compare on the main page and click on the link.

Where to buy

On the top of the main product page is a ‘Dealer Locator’ tab. Click on this tab to find a retailer near you. You can choose from a ‘Freestanding Centre’, ‘Built-in specialist’ or ‘All dealers’. Fill in your postcode and Town then click on the search button.

Buying from the website

There is no provision for buying directly from the website, but if you click on the ‘Buy this product now’ button underneath the image you’’ be taken to the dealer locator page. Under the Find an Online dealer banner there’s a search button that will take you to the websites of Siemens’s trusted online store for that product. In the case of the Siemens TK76009GB automatic bean to cup model it is Sainsbury’s.

Finally

Although it was the Porsche design filter machine that won the ‘iF’ and ‘reddot’ design award for product design and quality Siemens’s preferred range of coffee makers is bean to cup ‘coffee centres’. The feature innovative technical specs such as the ‘Aromawhirl’ brewing chamber that gives optimum flavour extraction.

The selection may not be large but it is a quality one and the website is simple and easy to use. You get enough information to help you buy, even if you don’t have a great deal of coffee maker knowledge.
